Shubunkin Pottery is owned and operated by Kris Baum. Ms. Baum has been a part-time potter since 1973. In 1993, she decided to retire from her career in health care and open her own pottery studio and business in her home. While her primary business is producing custom tiles for homes and businesses, she also makes and sells functional pottery. Her statement: "Working with clay has been a source of constant joy to me. The ability to create -- out of what essentially is a pile of mud -- tiles and vessels that enhance everyday life is magical. The permanence and durability of fired clay, and its ancient tradition, humbles the potter's heart. The eternal quest of fulfilling my artistic vision through this sometimes fickle medium makes every day a new challenge." |
